Eating Durians At A Farm

During durian season, it is a common practice among companies to reward their staff or even customers with a durian party. This is usually done by having a durian buffet at the office or HQ.

When you come to our farm you get a unique experience.

Able to eat durians surrounded by durian and fruit trees

Do understand that we are a durian farm therefore we will not have an air-conditioned environment. Our aim is to give visitors a true "Malaysian Durian Farm" experience.

Budget And Rewarding Your Staff

Durians can be quite expensive and if you are thinking of rewarding your staff with a durian feast you should expect a 4-5 figure experience depending on the number of staff that you have.

A musang king at a typical SS2 stall can go as high as RM 60- RM 80 per kg and if you are thinking of rewarding your staff with 2-3kg per person then you will be looking at a budget of at least RM 150 - RM 250 per person for a really satisfying experience.

However, do not worry as we understand your concerns. There are many ways to keep the cost low while making your staff feel that you care for them and want to reward them.

Overall we advice you to have a budget of RM 80 - RM 300 per pax.

Pricing can vary based on many factors which include:

Amount of durians given to your staff (1kg vs 3-5kg per person)
The type of durians given to your staff ( Musang king vs kampung durians)
The grade of durians given ( Higher grade vs lower grade)
Whether you have other fruits
Whether you have other food

What Type Of Package To Give Your Staff

If you look at our website, you will realize we have many different packages. They can range from by weight to RM 338 per pax.

As we bring visitors in through four wheel drive (our farm is only accessible by four wheel drive) and we give a farm tour we do charge an entry price of RM 38 per person if you opt for the by weight option. For all the other packages, the price of the four wheel drive adventure and farm tour is included. The rm 38 entrance fee and farm tour also includes complimentary mangosteen, rambutan, duku, langsat, dokong and pulasan from our farm (if in season).

For management levels and VIPs we recommend a budget of RM 200-350 per person
For a mixture of bosses, management levels and staff we recommend a budget of RM 120 - 200 per person
For mostly normal staff, we recommend a budget of RM 90 - RM 150 per pax

Types Of Durians And Quality Of Durians

Just like a handbag, durians can also come in different varieties and quality. You can not compare a Hermes with Longchamp and neither can you compare an Audi with a Toyota.

In the world of durians:

Higher priced durians are like Black Thorn and Musang King (we do not offer black thorn at the moment)
Mid tier priced durians are like (D24, Red Prawn, Chuk Keok) (RM 25-38)
Lower priced durians are the kampung durians (RM 15- 25)

When it comes to Musang King, there are also the cheaper varieties and also the better quality musang.

Cheaper musang king which lack the quality and taste can cost RM 25 - RM 40 per kg
Better quality musang king can cost RM 40 - RM80 per kg

Based on the understanding and price above, it is absolutely possible to offer visitors a durian experience for as low as RM 50 per pax. But your staff will leave not really satisfied.

Therefore you must consider the cost as well as the feelings of your staff when deciding which package to offer them.

How Many Kilograms Of Fruit Should You Give Your Staff?

A durian lover can easily eat anywhere between 3-5kg per person. However, the reality of a company event is that not all staff will like durians. Some come along for the fun and some will be bringing their family and kids who might not eat a lot.

Therefore we recommend 1-2kg of durian allocated to your staff.

For example, if you plan to bring 50 people to our farm, we advice you to order 50kg to 100kg of durians.

In the event that your staff cannot finish the durians, they can tapau or take them home.

How To Satisfy Your Staff And Keep The Budget Low

If your company has an extraordinary blowout quarter and wants to reward your staff with the best durians, then go for a higher unlimited budget. A budget of RM 300 and above will leave your staff extremely satisfied.

On the other hand, if you need to keep the budget within a certain limit we can advise the following ways:

Mix different types of durians (some musang king, d24 and kampung). An example is to give your staff 1kg of Musang king, 1kg of d24 and 1 kg of kampung durian per person. The cheaper D24 and kampung will lower the cost per pax
Mix higher grade Musang with lower grade musang. For example, if you have 100 person and plan to give 100 kg of Musang king to your staff, you can opt for 50 kg of higher grade musang at a price of RM 70 per kg and lower grade musang at RM 35 per kg. This will lower the cost per pax as well but allow your staff to experience the better grade musang
Have other fruits and coconut water. Durians are some of the most expensive fruit in the world. However, if you order some other fruits such as Nanas, Buah salak, papaya, nangka as well as coconut water this will help to fill your staff and at the same time offer more varieties. The cost of other tropical fruits are much lower than durians and this will help to lower the cost per pax.
Have a light lunch. The same reason above applies to lunch as well. A lunch which consists of lemang and rendang or mee goreng with chicken curry can help to lower the cost per pax while help to fill your staff. An example of 100 people is to order only 70kg of durians while giving them a light lunch. Therefore, even though each person eats less than 1kg of durian or 2-3 pulp of durian, they will still leave satisfied with the outing.

Below are examples of packages based on a proposed budget. All packages are based on the assumption of bringing in 100 staff. (Do note that our farm is only accessible by four wheel drive and you cannot opt out of it unless you bring your own 4wd)
